Katie's prayer: Steven Curtis Chapman's "Yours"

I rush by the beggar's hand and the wealthy man
And everywhere I look I realize
All of creation
This is our Father's world

Today, I read this blog, reminding me about this man, who’s apparently a super great musician. He played a piece of music - not easy music either - in a metro station. Not many people stopped to listen. When he finished - no applause. People just rushed by, too busy with their own lives to even take notice. At the end of the blog, there was a question that really hit me.

If we do not have a moment to stop and listen to one of the best musicians in the world, playing some of the finest music ever written, with one of the most beautiful instruments ever made

How many other things are we missing?

I was reminded of that question again while listening and reading the lyrics from tonight. It’s so easy to just pass by people and almost pretend like they’re not there. I’m just thinking back to my morning. Took the trash to the dumpster, passed by the dudes cutting the lawn - didn’t even give any recognition that they were there. Went to the grocery store. It was still early, so I didn’t see many people. But those that I did, no one got more than a glimpse of a smile. Barely even talked to the lady at check-out.

How many other things am I missing.. a lot. We’re called to love like Jesus. Jesus didn’t ignore people. Jesus didn’t just give a slight smile to people. He stopped, He talked to them, He cared about them. Again, I’m reminded of how Jesus is perfect, and I am not, but that’s ok, because I realize that now and I’m going to try to do better.
