I think as I’ve grown up, this song becomes harder to believe. When you’re little, it’s easy to believe that God is in charge of the whole world. As you grow up, it becomes harder because if God were in charge of the whole world, He wouldn’t let bad things happen to good people. If God were in charge of the whole world, He wouldn’t ruin my life so often. But God does, in His mysterious way, send two friends to post facebook statuses that speak to me about these issues. One yesterday, one today...
"We're not doubting that God will do the best for us, we're wondering how painful the best will turn out to be." -CS Lewis
“If God causes you to suffer much, it is a sign that He was great designs for you, and that he certainly intends to make you a saint. And if you wish to become a saint, entrust Him yourself to give you much opportunity for suffering; for there is no wood better to kindle the fire of holy love than the wood of the cross, which Christ used for His own great sacrifice of boundless love.” ~ St. Ignatius of Loyola
I guess God’s been working on my sainthood for a while. And I’ve been fighting Him the whole way, kicking and screaming. The problem isn’t that God isn’t in control of the whole world, it’s that He lets His creation have free will. Maybe if I were to give up that free will for God’s will more often, then I wouldn’t feel as if my life were being “ruined.”
