Katie's prayer: Steven Curtis Chapman's "Free"

Because I'm free
Jesus set me free

For work recently, I have been watching interviews with homeless people to compile them into a short video clip for a conference we have coming up. I’m amazed, through these peoples’ stories, as well as the story in this song, how people in the worst situations can still find the hope that Jesus offers. They can still, even with all these things against them, focus on the good of God and of their faith rather than the bad of their situations. It’s easier for them because they don’t have much beyond their faith - nothing to distract them. But me, sitting here in my apartment, about the fall asleep on my nice comfy bed, typing on a laptop computer, I have a lot to distract me. And sometimes all that can distract me keeps me away from that love of God, keeps me away from my faith, keeps me away from that focus and shifts it to all my stuff. That’s not how it should be. Today, I pray for the grace to be like these people who have nothing, but yet, at the same time, have everything.
