Chris' prayer: Phil Wickham's "Divine Romance"

Thinking about my relationship with God as a romance doesn't come too naturally to me, perhaps because God is generally presented as being masculine- the pronouns that we use when we speak of God, the image of a father, etc. (One notable exception of a "romance" with God, and one that is easier for me to relate to, is Matt Maher's "Sophia," which I blogged about here nearly a year ago.)

But, really, gender issues aside, romance pretty accurately describes what goes on. There is kind of an introduction, a courting phase, perhaps even some flirting if you are liberal with the definition, a growing closeness, a falling in love, a life spent together. I always seem to be teetering on the edge of the falling in love phase, knowing that it is going to happen eventually and that I'll spend the rest of my life in God's loving embrace. I hope I'm able to take that next step and let go and just fall.
