Chris' prayer: Matt Maher's "Sophia"

I know that I say this about a lot of Maher's music, but I love this song! I love its sneakiness. I always thought it out of place for a Matt Maher song to be a love song about a woman. While you can still tell it is spiritual, it seemed too secular to me compared to the rest of his music.

Then I learned that Sophia is another name for wisdom, and in Christianity, specifically the holy wisdom of God, and is also described as a spirit which emanates from Him- a Holy Spirit. Knowing this completely changed the song for me. Maher is singing a love song about the spirit that makes him want to be holy. He burns for wisdom, for truth; is exposed to wisdom; becomes committed to wisdom.

What a beautiful song!
