I love night prayer. True, sometimes, I'm not the best at paying attention, sometimes, I'm not the best at actually praying it, but I still love it. One of my fellow staffers at camp said it best... I get a better night sleep when I've prayed before hand. Today's song reminded me of one of the lines said every night (actually twice every night)
Protect us Lord as we stay awake,watch over us as we sleep. That awake we may keep watch with Christ, and asleep rest in His peace.
Every time I say that prayer, my mind always focuses on the "and asleep rest in His peace." (maybe cause I'm about to go to sleep) But it's kinda repeated again in the song... "peace attend thee." Peace. Not thinking about what I need to do tomorrow. Not worrying about a million different things. Not thinking about things I could do with my youth group. Not thinking about anything. Just resting peacefully. I'm not so great about that resting thing. What I am great about is all those things I just put "not" before.
Some nights I'm good about stopping myself. Sometimes, like tonight, I'm reminded about how bad I've let it get, and how I need to try a little harder about getting back to resting.
