Katie's prayer: Matt Maher's "Timeless"

You are the great unknown

If I had to pick one topic my teens have the most trouble understanding or believing, I would choose the concept of the Trinity. Apparently, three persons, one God is super hard for them to understand. I remember the last time I tried to explain it with the last Confirmation group, I think I left them more confused than when they came in. I’ve been talking about this recently with someone who has been less than helpful. He’s said “well, it’s a mystery, just something you have to believe with faith, we may never fully understand that.” I get that answer, and I’m ok with it, but the teens aren’t. They want real answers. I’m kinda afraid what’s going to happen when this next Confirmation group asks the same question - they came close to asking at the last meeting. What am I going to tell them? How am I going to help them understand that it’s unknown but that’s ok? Dear God (Father, Son and Holy Spirit!) please help me to say the right words to these teens to help them to be ok with the unknown, or give me the right words to make it sound somewhat non-unknown. Amen.
