Shattered, but I'm not brokenThis line seems to not make any sense. How can something be shattered but not broken? Glass, if you shatter it, is most definitely broken. Even our bodies, if we shatter an arm or leg, it, too, is most definitely broken.
While the line doesn't make much sense, I understand what Adams is getting at here. There is a famous quote that has been attributed to about a dozen people that goes something like, "It's not whether you get knocked down; it's whether you get back up." We all have struggles in our lives that bring us to our knees. But what is important is what we do once we're there. Do we allow the oppression to break us, or will we work through it and allow it to make us better people, and through that, rise again?
As I mentioned last night, I'm dealing with these struggles with my job and with my car. Both are situations I'm not accustomed to facing and are quite difficult. But I'm trying my best to allow them to make a better me. While I'm down on my knees, I'm praying for the strength to rise again.
