My life is in Your hands
Tonight, I saw the movie “Bruce Almighty” for the first time. For those of you unfamiliar with it... Bruce is very unhappy with his life. He pretty much blames God for all of his unhappiness. God decides to give Bruce some of his power. When Bruce (while being God) is overwhelmed with the amount of prayers coming in, he answers every prayer with ‘yes.’ Chaos then ensues. So many people winning the lottery everyone gets only $17, riots breaking out all over the place, and Bruce’s life falling apart around him. Bruce quickly learns the lesson that you can’t give everyone what they want.
As I was watching this movie, I was thinking about my life. At one point, I had the thought - “My prayers are different, I really do need what I’m asking for.” The immediately had the next thought (or maybe it was God talking to me) “Really Katie, you’re that conceited that you think you know exactly what you need for your life. That you are completely different from everyone else in the world?” Then I go to pray tonight’s song. I almost chuckled when I saw the name. God’s kinda smacking me over the head with this one. Dear God, my life is in Your hands. I realize now that what I want isn’t necessarily the best thing for my life. Help me to do what You want me to do.
