I receive Your mercyI think that these lines, and lines just like them in all kinds of songs, are often sung, but seldom understood. Or perhaps understood intellectually, but still not "got." God's mercy and grace rain down on us, freely given, but it is up to us to receive those gifts. There are two parts to every gift, the giver and the receiver, and I think sometimes we, definitely I, forget that we must accept those gifts. Without that acceptance, the gift means nothing. It cannot exist. Just like without two parties, love cannot exist. This weekend, as I head out on retreat to a youth conference, I will work on receiving the mercy and grace my Lord has for me.
