Katie's prayer: O.C. Supertones' "Away From You"

So I will remain still and silent

You know, I do a fantastic job about giving my teens advice about faith related things. But, not so fantastic of a job following that advice. At the end of session 4 (in both places!) we ended with prayer Lectio Divina. The last step is just basically sitting with God. Not saying anything, not really listening for anything, just being in His presence. I told them something I heard Bob Rice say one time... when you first start dating someone, you feel the need to fill that void with conversation, try to constantly avoid awkward silences. But as you get to know them better, you become more comfortable with the silence. It’s no problem to just sit in the same room with them and not say anything. And, well, God’s known you your entire life! Those silent parts aren’t awkward, they are comfortable silences. Let them happen! Just enjoy being with God.

I’ve relayed this message to both Confirmation classes, and I feel like I mentioned it somewhere else too. But yet here I am, talking to God. Sometimes pausing to listen, but not usually. And very rarely just being in His presence. Just being still and silent.
