While we pray to the god of lesser things.
When I first started playing this song, I had a problem with the above lyric. I couldn’t understand how God could be a God of anything but great things. The I read the lyrics, and found the word “god” wasn’t capitalized. In fact, all the lyrics I could find had it listed the same way, lowercase g. Which to me, means one thing, they’re not talking about God. So what are they talking about? Well I’m not quite sure, it’s late and I’m sleep deprived. But from what I took from it was that they were talking about all the things that we make into gods. Tv, computer, internet, e-mail, etc. And how that can really become a distraction from the one true God and our relationship with Him. Which, by the way, I can totally relate to right now! My recent ‘god,’ my work. I’ve got so much going on this weekend: a lock-in, the originally scheduled Confirmation class, the make-up Confirmation class because of the freak snow last week. All my attention has been on trying to make these events the best they can be. Not enough attention on God, both my relationship with Him and allowing Him to decide what’s going to happen this weekend. I was reminded of this post I read not too long ago from one of the blogs I read. Let’s just say, I haven’t been the best about following that advice. And the weekend starts tomorrow. I hope it’s not too late to involve God.
