Megan's prayer: Steven Curtis Chapman's "Love and Learn"

But there's nothing we can't get through
As long as we both hold on to the hand of God and each other

Tonight's song gave me a chance to think about past failed relationships and friendships, and what really went wrong. I think that in each of them there was not a balance between holding God's hand and holding each others' hand. Many of my friendships in the past have not at all been centered around God. Although I think it is completely possible to have relationships and friendships with those who aren't religious, I think it is important to still keep God involved in any decisions made regarding those friendships. I know I sure haven't done that in the past.

I also think it is important to hold on the the other person's hand, and not just God's. While it may be easier to just solve the problems without dealing with the other person, and only going through God, that will not help the relationship grow at all.

I think I struggle with both of these things. Too often I'm holding on to one hand or the either too tightly, and can't see the importance of allowing God, or the other person, to be an essential part of that relationship. Hopefully this is something I can work on.
