Katie's prayer: Jaci Velasquez' "God So Loved"

It's hard to contemplate
Letting go
And reaching out for His trust

I loved the readings this past weekend. The first time I read them, I thought the whole theme was all about tithing. But after reading again and hearing them (twice) and two different homilies, I realized the theme was a lot deeper than "tithing." The real theme was trusting God. The widow that Elijah meets, she knows that if she gives Elijah some food, there will be nothing left for her and her son and they will die. But instead of being greedy and keeping the food, she willingly gives it away, because she trusts. Trusts that Elijah is telling her the truth. Trusts that God really will provide. The widow in the gospel gives away all the money she has because she has faith.

I don't know about you, but it's hard to trust sometimes. Especially now when the world seems to be crumbling in all around me.

But I know the simple truth
That love is here for you.
So take Him at His word
And see what He can do.

As hard as it is to trust, the rewards are totally worth it. God keeps His promises. The first widow never ran out of oil or flour, just like Elijah said. So I guess things will turn out good for me too, right? I'm trusting You, God, don't let me down
