Chris' prayer: Matt Maher's "The End and the Beginning"

I feel like there is a lot I could write about this song. There are a lot of directions that my mind is pulling me in. But I think that I'm going to stick with this one:

The Mass.

Our greatest prayer as Catholics. Of all the things we do, our rituals, our sacraments, or traditions, this one is the greatest. And, for most Catholics, the most often as well.

I think in society a lot of times we reserve our best things for special times. For instance, many people have a set of fine china that only gets brought out for rare, special meals, if ever. We all have clothes that we only wear to special events. We go to certain places to celebrate our milestones that we don't often otherwise visit- it's a special occasion, after all.

But the Mass is different. It is the highest prayer we can say, and we're able to pray that prayer every week. We're able to pray that prayer daily if we choose. And in a city the size of St. Louis, where I live, I could even attend several Masses each day. It occurs so often that it can feel very ordinary, but if we, like the song says, take the time to consider what is actually going on at Mass, we would realize how truly special that occasion is.
