Katie's prayer: Steven Curtis Chapman's "Hold on to Jesus"

I think God might be trying to send me a message.
Yesterday, I went to lifeteen at St. Therese. The whole night was on "your purpose." In our small groups, we talked about what adults and teens find themselves doing over and over. The traps we get caught in (school, work, raising a family, etc.). And we talked about how we were made for more than that. We were made to worship God and to spread His word. The last question: "If you had a deeper understanding of who you were created to be and what you were created to do, how would that change your day tomorrow?" Their responses were that they would focus all their energy after reaching after that goal. After their replies it hit me... we just stated earlier that our purpose in life is to follow and worship God.... There's your deeper understanding right there! We already know all of our purposes. But the question is, are we really focusing all of our energy to reach that goal?

Then today, I'm checking the blogs I read frequently. This was the cartoon from Prayer Pups:
"I want to live my life so that EVERY DAY, God sees me and says 'Good Job!'"

THEN, I listen to today's song...
I will hold on to the hand of my Savior
And I will hold on with all my might
I will hold loosely to things that are fleeting
And hold on to Jesus
I will hold on to Jesus for life
I feel like recently, a lot of my life has just been fulfilling tasks on a list. I'm not really living my life. I'm making lists of things I need to do and checking them off as I complete them. Somedays, I'm even planning out my day to the minute - sometimes, days I don't have any meetings or work or anything, just doing laundry and such, and I'm still planning them out to the minute. And at the end of the day, is God really looking at me and saying "Good Job", did I focus all my energy at reaching my ultimate goal of heaven, did I hold on to Jesus with all my might and hold on loosely to the things that are fleeting. Not really. I just completed a task on a my list.
