Chris' prayer: Steven Curtis Chapman's "Hold on to Jesus"

Like a child holding on to a promise
It has been many years since I've been a child, but this is something I can still relate to. Whether that be from watching the children around me, or remembering it directly from my childhood, I remembered just how much weight a promise from my mom or dad or sisters would carry for me. There were very few things worth more than a promise at that young age, as, back then, a promise was a sure thing. Promises just didn't break.

Slowly I grew up and realized that that just wasn't the case. Others have broken the promises they have made to me, and I, too, have broken promises I've made to others. The magic, the weight, of the promise has been diminished as I've gotten older and become more cynical.

But that isn't true of everything I knew as a child. The love that Jesus has for me, and the promises that He has made to me remain just as strong today as they did when promises meant the world.
