Chris' prayer: Jars of Clay's "Five Candles (You Were There)"

Things I never asked you for

Yesterday, I was going through my closet, pulling out some clothes for a trip down to a youth conference this weekend. In looking at some of my t-shirts, I noticed that some of my favorite ones, both present and past, are ones that I didn't pick out myself. One was a Christmas present from my parents, another a just-because present from a former girlfriend, yet another a birthday present from my sister. None of them were asked for; all are my favorites.

Some of my favorite moments in my spiritual life have been the same way: it hasn't been the things I've asked for that have had the most impact, it has been the things I never asked God for, and the things I never even thought to ask for, that have impacted me the most.

My family and friends have picked out gifts that I would never have asked for that I just love, and God has given me gifts that are just perfect for me, without me even having to ask for them. He must know me pretty well. (:
