Chris' prayer: Jars of Clay's "Revolution"

You got to begin with who you know you are
To be a revolution
This song, and this lyric in particular, echoes a song I've loved since childhood. And, with the very recent death of its creator, the song is one I've heard several times over the past few days. Man in the Mirror has always been one of my favorite Michael Jackson songs, and one of my favorite songs regardless of artist, genre, or time. I'm not sure what it is about that song, whether it is the pace, the lyrics, the melody, or what, but it has always resonated with me.

The message of Man in the Mirror and Revolution are so simple, echoing Ghandi's famous quote, "Be the change you wish to see in the world." Every revolution, every societal change, starts with one small event. And it is upto an individual person to become that change, to force that event. Nothing starts off as a huge, organized movement. It starts off with something so small, that each one of us can do it. Each one of us are called to look in the mirror and see us as the revolution, to see us as the one who will bring change to the world.
