Sometimes things don't work out quite the way that you wanted them to
Man you can say that again! I was so excited to get back to my normal youth group meeting last night so I could catch up with them and such. 6:30 rolls around - I’m still the only one there. 6:35 - no one. I text my faithful attending kids to see if they’re coming. 6:40 - still by myself, only two kids replied with “no sorry.” 6:41 - I determine that it’s what God wanted. I go to the back of the room to play with the Jenga set I brought (as an awesome analogy for the talk I was going to give). 6:45ish - the one kid that never replied my text walks in, also the same kid who’s shown up to almost every meeting since I began there. The plan of going through the beatitudes didn’t happen. Instead we played Jenga and talked, about nothing mostly. But really, I’m ok with it. It allowed for some great fellowship time. I’ve been reading a lot lately that the best way to be an effective youth minister is to get to know your kids, spend time with them, let them know you care. And that’s basically what last night ended up being - showing that one kid that I cared.
