Katie's prayer: Dawkins & Dawkins' "Wrapped Up"

Got me wrapped up in You

I can so easily get wrapped up in whatever I’m doing. Work, my latest project, doing nothing, whatever. I find myself devoting so much time, often more time than I planned, doing so many different activities. Like this afternoon, I’m working on a project that is nearing the half-way mark. I’m so excited for it to be finished, I worked on it for hours. Today was like the 4th or 5th day in a row that I’ve spent hours just working on this project. Work is another thing that is so easy to get wrapped up into. There’s just so much work that needs to be done, and a lot of it with only a week to work on it. Sometimes I find myself staying at the office a lot longer than planned, working from home after I “get off” work.

But if I really think about it, I don’t often get “wrapped up” with God. Sure, I devote at least 30-60 minutes a day talking with Him (often through songs). But I don’t get caught up in hours on end being wrapped up with God. This is why I’m excited for tomorrow. It will be my third Advent retreat this season. A time where I’m really going to be wrapped up with God from 9-2. No emails. No other work. No project. Nothing but me and God.

Dear God, help me to fully enter into this retreat (unlike the last one). Help me to push all my stress behind me. Help me to not think about all the things that must be done for work. Help me to be completely and totally wrapped up in JUST You tomorrow. Amen.
