You said "Ask and you will receive"

This song used to always bother me. Because of the above line. It’s true, that is what Jesus said, but that’s not what I’ve experienced in my life. I asked and asked and asked and still no answer. I’d ask for things and the opposite would happen. I’ll tell God how my life should go and that’s not what would happened. Often, it seemed like the opposite of what I wanted would happen. Ask and you will receive? Psh! More like ask and you WON’T receive. Then tonight, I heard, really heard, the next line...


Whatever you need

Not whatever you want. Whatever you need. When I think about it, all those times I didn’t get what I asked for, it’s cause I was asking for things I wanted, not needed. Every time I’ve asked for something needed, like really needed, that prayer is always granted. That prayer is the one where I receive what I ask for. Dear God, help me to really only ask for the things I need, not just want, so I can see that You really do answer prayer, that You really do give me whatever I need. Amen.
