Katie's prayer: Matt Maher's "Flesh and Bone"

We’re less than perfect.

The youth group has adopted a 9 year old girl through CFCA. Sunday, the kids are going to learn about Yurnai, and about what we can do as a group to help her. I will introduce the jar to collect money from them to help with her adoption. I’ve been planning this night for the past two weeks, and it’s going to be perfect because I’m a perfectionist. Everything I do, every youth group event, every Confirmation class, every time we meet for PSR, it all has to be perfect. I got an email today that made me realize that Sunday is going to be really perfect, but not because of anything I’ve done.

The mother of the girl we adopted sent us a letter - our first correspondence with this family arrives 3 days before I plan on introducing the family to the youth (when I plan on having them write a letter to them)?! Seriously, how perfect is that? But, it’s not because of me. It’s only through God that I am able to reach total perfection. And really, this letter coming is probably going to be the only perfect part of the night because things never go as planned. But that’s ok, because even though I’m always striving for it, I’m not totally perfect.
