Katie's prayer: Jason Upton's "40"

Lord, do not hold back your loving kindness
Lord, do not hold back your mercy
You are the way and the truth that guides us

Tonight, I went to a fundraiser dinner for Advice and Aid Pregnancy Center. Their mission statement: “Serving families facing unplanned pregnancies, both before and after, with Christ-like compassion.” They are strategically placed two doors down from planned parenthood. Within the past 12 months, they have helped bring 225 mothers away from aborting their babies.

The keynote speaker was a former planned parenthood director. She shared with us her story. How she was dragged into believing that planned parenthood was there to help people, to prevent abortions, etc. How she felt that it really was God’s will for her to work for them. And how she was brought to her senses one day. I was almost brought to tears hearing some of her experience. I mean, I know what they do, I heard stories. But I’ve never heard stories from someone that was on the inside. I had no idea things were as bad as they were. I had no idea some of the things that went on behind the scenes.

Where she was located, they did 35-50 abortions a day. When she said that, I began to wonder, how did we get to this point? How did we get to this point where so many babies are being killed before they have a chance? With all that information out there about babies being babies from the start and the dates of getting a heartbeat and hair and fingers, etc, how can women still want to get rid of their babies? How can women be tricked into thinking that it’s nothing, no harm will come to them or their babies? How can women allow doctors to insert instruments into them blindly, not knowing exactly where they are going, possibly injuring their uterus or even putting their lives in danger?

And lastly, how can God allow all of this to happen? Why aren’t more people stepping up to say, “No”? 80% of the women that go to these clinics are practicing Christians. Why aren’t pastors and priests addressing this issue in their churches? God does send out this truth about the sanctity of life... why aren’t more people spreading that truth?

Tonight my prayer is for the 800ish people I shared dinner with, that they will have the courage to step up and say, “No”. Tonight my prayer is for the workers of Advice and Aid Pregnancy Center and similar centers around the U.S. that truly try to stop all abortions. Tonight my prayer is for the 225 mothers who said yes to life, said yes to their babies. Tonight my prayer is for all those mothers who have decided to not be mothers, that they’re eyes can be opened and that they can get the help they need and that they can feel your love and kindness and mercy. And finally my prayer is for all those babies that didn’t have the chance to see the light of day, that You will welcome them home with open arms.
