This song talks about a progression– one thing leading to another, which leads to a third. In this case, it is remembrance leading to worship, which in turn leads to communion.
I was talking not too long ago with a friend of mine about another progression of sorts. We were talking about the rules that Christians follow and the love of God and which of the two precedes the other. Does the love of God come from following the rules, or does one follow the rules because of their love for God?
I'm sure that this can and does happen in both directions for different people. My answer, and my friend's answer, though, were the same. For each of our lives, the desire to follow the rules God has given us and the thirst to know more about Him flowed first from the love that we each have for God. We loved first, and then followed.
