Blessing upon blessing upon blessing from You, Lord
Today was a day full of blessings in disguise. The plan for today - go into work at the diocese, take a longer lunch or stay later so I wouldn’t have to waste time before going to Tuesdays at the Boulevard (Diocesan Young Adult event, Mass followed by pizza and beer at a brewery) then come home.
It didn’t seem to start off well. There was a lot more traffic this morning than normal. I couldn’t get over fast enough for my exit. I was able to get over for the next exit, I continued (because with that exit, it’s impossible to get back on the highway going the other way) knowing I could just turn left at the next light, go one block, and meet up with my normal route. What I didn’t realize that at that next light was a ‘Do Not Turn Left’ sign. And that same sign was at the next three lights. I ended up going on a huge detour around town, getting lost, going the wrong way more than once because I was all turned around. Got to work 10 minutes late. I didn’t really take my lunch break like planned. So 4pm came, I should be leaving cause by this point I’ve worked 8 hours. I stayed 10 minutes to make up for the 10 minutes I missed in the morning. I get to my car around 4:30. Tuesdays at the Blvd doesn’t start til 6:30. I went to CVS for a bit to pick up something and then started making my way to the Church. It was like the morning all over again. I missed my turn, and wouldn’t you know it, ‘no left turns from 4-6pm’ at like every light. I finally get to the church, at 5:15. Super way early. Went to go into the Church, no one was there yet, doors still locked. Luckily, like 2 minutes after getting there, someone opened the door. Things went pretty smoothly from there. (Except for leaving way later than planned, but that’s ok).
Now, here’s where the blessing part comes in. Because of my super long detour this morning, I was able to listen to K-Love (Christian Radio Station) a little longer. They began talking about the days of creation - something I just covered last Sunday with my teens! So I really enjoyed listening to their different theories on different things. And it really got me thinking even more about creation. Because my lunch time didn’t go as planned, I was able to get out by 4:30 so I could stop by CVS and pick up stuff - something I didn’t see time to do in my super busy schedule. Because of my getting lost the second time, I didn’t have to wait a long time outside the Church. That’s a really good thing because it’s not in the greatest of neighborhoods - not the worst either, but definitely not the greatest. My later leaving time allowed me more social time with my friends who I hardly see anymore.
So while I could look at today as a day of wasting a lot of gas. And time. I’m going to choose to look at it as a day full of blessings from God.
