Katie's prayer: Jars of Clay's "Like a Child

If you would follow and believe
with faith like a child

Once a month, the Rosary is said during the first half hour of PSR. The last time this was done at XII Apostles, I was able to attend, and I’m so glad I did! It was being led by the 3rd and 4th grades. But this month was different than the other months, the teacher didn’t go straight into prayer. Instead she began with a little explanation of the rosary, and why we would be praying the sorrowful mysteries, and talking about each of the sorrowful mysteries. Many times, she stopped and asked questions. Easy questions, like “they arrested Jesus, then what happened?” I don’t think the older kids were paying attention at all. They made no attempt to answer any of these questions. The ones answering the questions were the kids in preK-K. One adorable boy said they put a “thorn of crowns” on his head.

As sad as it was for me to sit there and realize not many people there were getting anything out of, or even paying attention to, the rosary, or the lesson attached to it; it was also a great moment for me to realize the greatness that is the faith of children. I wonder what happens to make us lose that.
