Chris' prayer: Kirk Franklin's "Melodies from Heaven"

Rain down on me
"Rain down" is one of my favorite ways to describe receiving or asking for God's Love, or the Holy Spirit, or Jesus' presence. In between praise and worship songs, you'll often hear me saying or singing some variation of this line.

I cannot relate too much to tongues of fire coming and resting over me, but rain, rain I can relate to. I have experienced, and can therefore easily imagine, being absolutely drenched by rain. And, under the right circumstances, it just feels so "right," for lack of a better term. The way the rain drops cascade down my cheeks or nose; I can taste them on my lips. The way they drip from my eyebrows. The way they fall from my fingertips.

So, it seems perfectly wonderful to think of the Holy Spirit that way- pouring over me, washing me clean, soaking me in love. Unfortunately, it has been hard to feel God's presence lately. I don't know whether it is my busy-ness, or the general gloominess of Winter, or what, but I've been mired in a bit of a funk. Maybe what I need to do is get out in the rain and get soaked again.
