Joy from the TruthWhen I listen to atheists or agnostics for any length of time, one of the things I commonly hear brought up is how it would be impossible to have fun when constrained by all the rules of Christianity, and even more so with Catholicism. Fun means having the freedom to do what you want, whenever you want, and anything less is too restrictive.
The moment I went on my first service trip, though, I knew that this way of thinking was false. I got such happiness and satisfaction out of serving my fellow brothers and sisters, helping them accomplish things that they couldn't have accomplished on their own. I can experience joy from following God, from abiding by His rules, from living in the Truth.
I experience this again and again, with retreats, with Life Nights, with conferences, and with the simple things, like sharing a meal with someone, a small talk, a common experience. Living by God's Word is, by definition, joyful.
