Megan's prayer: Kirk Franklin's "Looking for You"

You are my sunlight after the rain

Today I went to to De La Salle Middle School in St. Louis. It's a school with only 51 students, all who come from pretty harsh backgrounds.

The person giving me the tour today was talking about the back story of some of the students. Many of them come from broken families with uneducated parents. Many of them were not going to school, or went very infrequently, until they came to DLS. The atmosphere at the school was amazing. The students were all so friendly - any student who passed by me stopped to introduce themselves and shake my hand. Seeing such well behaved students come from such a hard neighborhood was very moving. For these students, school was the "sunlight after the rain." I think a big part of this is because they are a Catholic School, and follow in the Catholic traditions.

It was an amazing experience for me - to see just how much of a difference this school, and their mission, made in the lives of their students.

I hope to one day be part of the "sunlight after the rain" for my own students.
