Chris' prayer: Don Moen's "Blessed Be the Name of the Lord"

So we lift up holy hands in one accord
This song was a tough one for me to pray through and figure out the part that was meant for me tonight. There aren't a whole lot of words and, like Katie said, it's fairly straight-forward. How am I supposed to expand on that? But as I was listening and reading along with the words, the word accord stuck out to me. I'm pretty sure that accord is one of those words that I was never taught, but just picked up along the way from hearing it in context. It has an familiar, yet unknown, quality to it. So, I decided to look it up in the dictionary.

There are a few different definitions, and the one that seems to be used here is basically in a united way. However, what stuck out to me was another of the definitions. The verb form can mean to give or grant someone power, status, or recognition. That, if you replace someone with God, is basically what Christianity is all about: granting God power over our lives, status as our Lord and Savior, and recognition as our Creator.

Sometimes the simplest songs have equally simple hidden messages.
