Chris' prayer: Cheer Up Charlie's "Let it Ride"

Gonna wanna throw a fit? Go the other way
A little more than a year ago, I stopped by a retreat that was going on up at church. I didn't have an official role in this retreat, so instead, I just kind of walked around and said hi to everyone and asked how things were going and enjoyed some of the festivities. It seemed like everyone was in good spirits and having a good time, except for one of the teens helping to put on the retreat. Despite being one of the happiest, cheeriest people I've ever met, she was the one who was in a bad mood, and just generally not enjoying what was going on.

When I got a chance, I pulled her aside and told her how important her joy was to the weekend. The way she shares her happiness has the potential to draw so many people to Christ, and I wanted her to know how important she was, even just her smile was, to the success of the retreat. The bad mood and sadness could wait until later- she was needed NOW!

It may seem like a minor thing, and perhaps we may even feel entitled to our moods, but I think it is important to understand how our moods affect other people. If our happiness is what is spreading the love of Christ to others, don't we have the responsibility to do everything we can to be happy? I think so.

And the teen thinks so, too. She reminds me of such anytime she sees me in less than a stellar mood. The reasons we both were upset were far less important than the task at hand- spreading the Gospel.
