The Lord, strong and mighty
The word "mighty" is one that I have heard at least once a week since I was born. It is really abundant in the Bible and in any description of the Lord. But it never meant anything to me, that is to say I have never stopped to consider what the word "mighty" truly means. How much power it actually holds - or that fact that it is almost never used to describe any human thing, because it holds so much weight that we cannot comprehend. a few things pop into mind, some are exaggerations from the media and some are things that could be "mighty" in an Earthly way. But none are MIGHTY in the truest sense of the word.
Last weekend, there was a REAP retreat for members of the REAP team (as opposed to us giving one). It was presented by Oddwalk Ministries (I recommend checking them out, they are very talented) and it was basically just a day of fun and light prayer. A lot of praising God for all that He has blessed us with. But at the end, they closed with what was to be the Gospel the next day, which was Jesus being baptized by John. They projected the words up onto the screen and instructed us to hold onto a word. "ONLY one word, not a phrase or sentence....just one word that speaks to you."
When we began the prayer, nothing jumped out at me, but i stared a the screen and prayed for an open heart. The word 'Mighty' sprung out from the first few lines of the passage and stuck with me. Toward the end, the word 'voice' became evident too. I could very easily tell that I had chosen the word 'voice' and God had chosen for me the word 'mighty'. So that is the one I stuck with. But I didn't know why. Next instruction was to illustrate it, so I pictured a broken heart (my heart) so broken that only a hand as mighty as God's could fix it, and He did.
Here again, in this song, I am reminded that many people can be strong, many people can be incredible, or amazing, but solely God is 100% Mighty, and only He can take on all of the triumphs and trials of the world - He is Mighty to save.
