I know the times are always changing
But our hearts still beat the same
We have a Father
We have a Savior
And that will never change
Tonight I went to my 3rd or 4th workshop on the changes in the New Roman Missal. Times are changing soon. The date just keeps getting sooner and sooner, and no way of stopping it! Since I learned about the reasons for the change at my first workshop, I have been ok with them. I realize they are necessary and are nothing when compared with Vatican II changes. But it wasn’t until tonight that I realized just how inconvenient these changes are going to be. I’ll probably be reading responses from a card for a super long time. I sing in the choir, so I really have to learn and really know the Mass parts. People at 5:00pm Mass hardly sing along now, they probably won’t sing at all when they don’t know the songs! We might mess up a few times. And being only one of three people singing in the choir (sometimes just two) it’s going to be pretty obvious when we mess up.
But despite all this, there are a few things that aren’t changing. God is still God. The Mass is still the Mass. The bread and wine will still become the Body and Blood of Christ. Just cause the words we’re saying (or singing) are different doesn’t mean the Mass is different. And eventually, I will learn all of this, and get used to all of this. Tonight my prayer is for those poor E&C Catholics who won’t have a single idea of what’s going on this Christmas. Cause it could be worse, at least I know these changes are coming.
