Katie's prayer: Dave Mathews and Tim Reynolds' "Christmas Song"

I have never gotten further than the first line of this song. Ever. The words don’t even begin until like 25 seconds into it. Then when it does start, it’s very slow singing. Takes forever for him to get out that first line: “She was his girl, he was her boyfriend.” That was all I had ever heard from this song. The first time, I immediately jumped to the conclusion that this was about some couple at Christmastime, and I didn’t really want to hear it, especially since it took him forever to get the words out! A few weeks ago, I tried to give it another shot, and it didn’t go far, I think for the first time I got to the end of the line.

Needless to say, I wasn’t too excited when this was the song that popped up for today. But have since changed my mind. I began by reading the lyrics. Who knew, it’s a song about Jesus! And once I got used to the slowness of it, I kinda like it. It’s a great kind of lullaby for me here right before bed. The best part, the theme of the song (besides Jesus) is God’s love. Something that (it may sound stupid) but I feel the need to be reminded of a lot. Dear Jesus, thank you for loving me.
