Let the whole world say what they may
No one can take this joy away
Lord, I believe
We had someone come in the other day, she’s an older lady. She was complaining about parents not doing their religious duty as parents these days. Complaining about how in her day things were different and if these certain parents kept it up, their kids would end up leaving the church when they grew up. Someone brought up another lady in our parish who had that kind of spotty religious upbringing. I brought up that from 6-9th grade (at least), I wasn’t attending Mass on Sundays. I was teaching Sunday School while my family went to Mass. So someone said if Katie and (insert other lady’s name) turned out fine, then there’s hope for these kids. To which the older lady replied, well Katie’s still young yet, we don’t know about her. Somehow suggesting that I could still be one of those people that are “dropping out” of the Catholic Church.
No offense to this lady, but that’s not ever going to happen. Now that I’ve found the joy of God and the joy of the church and all that it offers, there is no leaving. It’s just not an option. I just wish I could give this kind of experience to a lot of other people out there (one of the reasons I’m in the job I am, so I can do just that, or at least try to).Tonight my prayer is for all those “E&C Christians.” I pray that something at Mass on Friday night/Saturday morning will spark something in them that will help them continue to come back week after week.
