Fall on your knees
O hear the angel voices
O night divine!
O night when Christ was born
I think it was last week, maybe the week before, I was listening to this radio program. The speaker was going through the Christmas story, but not like I had ever heard before. He was telling the story from Joseph’s perspective. Going into what he thought Joseph might be thinking and feeling. Adding in parts that most likely happened, like Mary telling Joseph she was pregnant, Joseph talking to his buddies about it, Joseph trying to get someone to wed them in a hurry, etc. A few days later, I ran across the same speaker telling the story from the perspective of the shepherds. I kinda liked both of these programs because it allowed me to look at the story of Jesus in a whole different light. It helped make the story new and exciting again, just picturing the story from the perspective of one of the characters.
Tonight, this was the song being sung near the end of Communion. As I was kneeling there singing along, I began to picture the story. Not from the perspective of one of the traditional characters, but from all of them really, but mostly from my perspective if I were thrown into the scene. The thought came to me that really, there is nothing you could do but fall on your knees. I’m sure it must have been a pretty amazing sight.
