Katie's prayer: Amy Grant's "A Christmas to Remember"

It's gonna be a Christmas to remember

You know I’ve never noticed this, but now that I do, this song kinda bothers me. Most of the things she lists as making this Christmas one to remember are things like Christmas movies on TV, the smell of evergreen trees, waking up to a white Christmas, having a fire with Nat King Cole songs. I don’t quite agree with her. While all those things are great (I mean, how can one get through a Christmas without watching “The Year Without a Santa Claus”?!), those aren’t thing the things that make Christmas really memorable. What does make it memorable, is only mentioned in one line...

The memories we share

And really, that doesn’t even fully cover it. It’s the memories we share and the people we share them with. What I love about Christmas, what makes Christmastime memorable for me... spending time with family that I don’t get to see often enough, spending time with friends I really only see once a year now (Christmastime!), not having to worry about the next Confirmation class or youth group event and thus not having stress, laughter - so much laughter I have tear squirts. That’s really what makes Christmas great, family and friends and the memories made with them - not movies and songs and snow.
