Katie's prayer: Steven Curtis Chapman's "Remember Your Chains"

We will find our hearts fuller and freer
To give and receive God's love

At one of the Great Catholic Answers Bible studies this past summer, Chris asked us: when you feel closest to God at like camps and conferences and stuff, how does that change your heart? Or something like that. I remember thinking back to the Leadership Conference and remembering how much empathy I had for the teens during our small group time. I think I cried more that week than I ever have before. I was hurting for them, hurting because I had no idea what some of them went through. My heart just grew, and they became part of me. I really didn’t want to do anything else but show them how much they are truly loved.

And while I do get glimpses here and there of that deep of empathy, it’s no where near where it was that week. And I know why too... That week, I had Mass every day, Adoration 2 or 3 nights, surrounded by amazing Catholic people, amazing role models, intense praise and worship sessions maybe 4-5 times a day. I was a lot closer to God then than I am now. And really there’s no excuse. I’ve become a little lazy in my faith. God’s pushing me (and has been for a week or two now) to try harder. Laziness is not acceptable, nor should it be. It’s time to get back to being super close to God. Back to having my heart so full, I can’t help but show others how loved they are.
