Father, listen to our earnest prayer
There’s a saying that goes “Be careful what you ask for - you might just get it.” I think the same goes for prayer: “Be careful what you pray for - you might just get it.” And God has a wonderful sense of humor, so you might not get it exactly how you wanted. (:
Since this past May, I have been searching for teachers for our PSR (Parish School of Religion) program. Because of splitting classes, and some teachers who decided to leave, I was in need of a lot of teachers. Being new in the position of DRE, and not knowing many people in the parish yet, I relied a lot on God. Praying lots that teachers would rise up and volunteer. With a little more than a month before classes start, I still one teacher. This morning it was two.
Our latest volunteer, if I had my choice, would not be volunteering. She’s in her 80’s, has volunteered to do many, many things in the past and never followed through with them, she’s really forgetful, and she just might be the sweet old lady that brought beer to a family even the Church was holding. In my mind, there’s got to be better candidates out there! But for the first time, she fulfills all the requirements to volunteer. She actually took the required protecting God’s children workshop, she’s going to register with the parish, she was a teacher before retiring. There’s no real good reason to say no to her. So I said yes, she’s going to be a teacher assistant. And I’m praying now more than ever. Who knows, maybe she is God’s answer to my pleas for a teacher - He does have a nice sense of humor. I hope and pray things work out with her! And I pray that I get that last volunteer to sign up for that last teacher position!
