Katie's prayer: Kutless' "Run"

Find a place of solitude, and I’ll speak to you
As you pray to me

Silence is such a hard thing to find. There’s so much noise that fills my day. Conversations with people in person, conversations with people over the phone or skype, the TV, K-Love in the car, iTunes at work and at home, sirens in the background, etc. I’ve even become accustomed to having music during my prayer time. Forgetting totally that sometimes, God speaks to us in the silence of our heats.

That was until this past Wednesday. Wednesday, after having our second Bible study on the Eucharist, we moved over to the Chapel for Eucharistic Adoration. Chris brought his guitar and had a sheet full of songs. The entire first half our our time there (maybe even more) was spent singing those songs. I tried actually praying the songs, but it was hard because I didn’t really resonate with most of them (at that time). Then, suddenly, after running through like 8 songs, he stopped. Said something about being quiet and just letting God speak to us. Suddenly, praying became a whole lot easier. I was able to have a conversation with God about the things on my heart - not the things in the chosen songs for that evening. I’m glad for that evening, because it reminded me that while prayer through song is good, sometimes it’s good to just sit in silence.
