Katie's prayer: Matt Maher's "Better is One Day"

I've tasted and I've seen
Come once again to me
I will draw near to You.
I once heard that the most intimate form of prayer, the one way we can get closest to God, closest to Heaven is through celebrating the Mass. If that's true (and I believe it is) then we should all be wanting to go to Mass as much as possible so we can get as close to God as possible, right? The sad reality is that this doesn't really happen. Life happens, and we become busy. I know, I don't usually attend daily Mass too often. Most people just settle for Mass once a week on Sunday. Honestly, that doesn't really bother me.

What really bothers me, though, is when an event begins with Mass and people skip that. Y-NET meetings (meetings for all the youth ministers in the diocese) have more than once begun with Mass. Today, I went to an event open to all parish staff among the diocese on Front Door Ministry (dealing with the unexpected people who come to your door). It began with Mass. These events are for people working for the Church. They should know, more than anyone else, the importance of beginning a day with Mass! But the good majority of the people just skip it. And then the people that do show up stick to the back half of the church, sometimes even the back fourth of the church. It's a problem I'm noticing more and more and it bothers me more and more. How are we, the church staff members, supposed to do our jobs effectively and doing for others if we're not doing for ourselves?
