Katie's prayer: dc Talk's "Day by Day"

Oh dear Lord, three things I pray
To see thee more clearly
To love thee more dearly
To follow thee more nearly
Day by day
This past summer, I attend Mass at a near-by parish I had never been to before, St. Agnes. I really wish I could remember more about the homily, cause I remember it being really good and really funny. His whole homily was focused on these lyrics. He was talking about how, really, this should be the only things we pray for: to see thee more clearly, to love thee more dearly, and to follow thee more nearly. And how, too often, we get distracted from that.

That same message was echo'ed in the prep I did for this week's Confirmation class (listening to Mark Hart). He was talking about how God is the author of all life. And too often, when things don't go quite as planned, we try and tell God how things should go. If only this, then I'd tell more people about you. If only this, then my life would be perfect. If only this, that would be awesome. But the problem is that we're characters in the story, we can't tell God what to write. He's God and He's gonna write what He wants to write! He has the author-ity (meaning author's right, according to Mark Hart) to do whatever!

So my prayer tonight: To see thee more clearly, to love thee more dearly, and to follow thee more nearly, day by day.
