Katie's prayer: Matt Maher's "Lead Me Home"

I praise you for the past
for the mess of sin
What? Did I hear that correctly?! Matt Maher praising God for SIN!? Makes no sense at all! But yet consistent with part of the prayer said at the Easter Vigil Mass that confused me every time I heard it. "Oh happy fault, o necessary sin of Adam." Again, what?! Did I hear that correctly? A HAPPY fault, NECESSARY sin?! Has the whole world gone mad?! Fortunately, no, I'm just never understood this perspective, until now. Cause see, after that line comes the bridge (I guess you might call it that) again... Every road leads back to You. And that prayer doesn't end there... (I never heard the next line cause my brain was so consumed with confusion) which gained for us so great a Redeemer.

As bad as the whole sin thing is, there are some silver linings. After I sin really badly or after lots of sinning, I turn back to God in repentance. I mean, God doesn't want me sinning, but you might even say that it's my sinning (and repenting) that keeps me close to God. And, really, without sin, there would be no need for Jesus. Cause Jesus came to die for our sins. So maybe Matt isn't all that crazy for praising God for sin.
