Chris' prayer: Rich Mullins' "Alrightokuhhuhamen"

I wrote a friend of mine an email the other night. She had asked me how about my spiritual journey and how I was doing and what I was learning at this point in time. I had actually already been thinking about the question a bit, so I was ready to answer.

I told her that, emotionally, I had been to deeper points, and had a stronger emotional connection with God at different points in my faith, but I had never been this involved in my faith. I told her about how a dream of mine as a kid was to be one of the popular ones at church, one of the people who everyone knew. This was quite the dream coming from such a shy kid.

But over the course of the last five years, I'm starting to achieve that forgotten dream. People recognize me because I give the announcements or lector at Mass, or because I help out with the youth ministry program, or because I show up at other events. It isn't about being popular or being recognized as the dream used to be, it is about doing God's work. There is plenty of it to do, and I try to give as much of myself as I'm able. As tonight's song says,
He'll be with us, but the work is up to us.
