Katie's prayer: Jonathan and Stephen Cohen's "Friend of Mine"

When I was listening to this song this morning, the thing that stuck out was this: Turn our pain, keep our hearts, comfort us. At the time, I wasn't aware the singers were actually at the Columbine during the shooting, so it seemed odd to me that they would include themselves in the hurt and pain of the students. This made me think about how sometimes our pain is shared by God. It's not just me that's in pain, God feels it too.
But then, after doing a little research, I found out the singers were students at Columbine that were able to escape before being harmed. And I remembered something I read a while back. No matter what you are feeling, God understands because has already felt it. Temptation: He was in the desert for 40 days being tempted. Frustration: Scattering the coins of the money changers and overturning their tables. Rejection: From this time many of his disciples turned back and no longer followed him. Loneliness: My God, My God, why have you forsaken me? It continued with more, but that's all I can remember.
But the point for today is that God understands, and he's there to let you know, I understand. I share in your pain, and your joy, and your frustration. And I'm here to comfort you. Please let me do what I'm here to do.
Turn our pain to Your gaze
Keep our hearts on the mark
Comfort us with your love again
Comfort, peace, and sweet release
Comes from You,
Where it's true, I hide myself in You.
